Techno India University, West Bengal Signs Historic MoU with Queen’s University Belfast, a Premier Russell Group Institution

Kolkata, 15th November, 2025: Techno India University, West Bengal has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland—one of the prestigious members of the Russell Group. Founded in 1845, Queen’s University Belfast has a distinguished 180-year legacy of academic excellence and ranks among the top three universities in the United Kingdom for research intensity, especially across STEM, Social Sciences, and Humanities.

This historic partnership is set to provide significant momentum to fundamental and applied research initiatives at Techno India University, West Bengal, further strengthened by Queen’s University’s upcoming state-of-the-art campus at GIFT City, Ahmedabad. Notably, this MoU marks the first collaboration of its kind between Queen’s University Belfast and any Indian university under the GIFT City project, apart from IIT Gandhinagar, establishing a new benchmark for international academic cooperation.

The MoU was formally signed by Professor Manoshi Roy Chowdhury, Co-Chancellor of Techno India University and Co-Chairperson of Techno India Group. The signing ceremony was followed by a special felicitation at the residence of the British High Commissioner, Lindy Cameron CB OBE, in New Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Satish Kumar, Queen’s University Belfast and Founding Dean of the GIFT City Campus, said “It shall be a great opportunity for students of Techno India University, West Bengal to be exposed to world-class learnings at our GIFT City Campus being unfolded by Queen’s University Belfast. I congratulate the Techno India University authorities for being so proactive on this subject.”

The event was graced by eminent dignitaries including Professor Richard Miles, Provost, and Professor Margaret Topping, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s University Belfast. Professor Goutam Sengupta, Rector of Techno India University, West Bengal—who shares a long-standing association with Queen’s University through research and industry collaboration in Northern Ireland—was also present.

This strategic alliance is set to create expansive opportunities for Techno India University students and faculty. It will facilitate access to cutting-edge, world-class research collaborations and open pathways for student exchange programmes at the GIFT City Campus of Queen’s University Belfast, offering students exposure equivalent to that of the Belfast campus.

Highlighting the broader vision of the collaboration, Professor Manoshi Roy Chowdhury said,

The partnership—particularly through our presence at GIFT City—will enable our young minds to access state-of-the-art research infrastructure and participate in projects of international significance. Techno India University students will gain hands-on experience in advanced simulation laboratories—an area in which Queen’s University has developed deep expertise over several decades. These facilities will now be accessible through the newly established partnership, significantly expanding the academic and research horizon for Indian students in Ahmedabad.
