New Delhi, Aug 5: Seven years after the abrogation of Article 370, the government has highlighted the development progress and expanding opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, with a focus on infrastructure, education, healthcare, tourism, and economic growth.
Marking the anniversary of the historic decision taken on August 5, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the two Union Territories have witnessed significant transformation in several sectors and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring greater opportunities for residents.
The Prime Minister said the period following the change has seen increased focus on improving connectivity, strengthening public services, encouraging entrepreneurship, and expanding opportunities for youth, women, and disadvantaged communities.
Over the past seven years, the region has witnessed continued investments in roads, digital connectivity, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, tourism infrastructure, and skill development programmes. These initiatives are aimed at supporting local economies and creating new avenues for employment and growth.
The government has also emphasised the role of tourism, startups, sports, and private investment in driving economic activity in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Improved infrastructure and better connectivity are expected to further support businesses and boost the region’s integration with wider markets.
Prime Minister Modi said the objective remains to ensure that every citizen has the opportunity to pursue education, build livelihoods, and contribute to India’s development journey.
The abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 resulted in the reorganisation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The move ended the special constitutional provisions that had governed the region since the adoption of the Constitution.
As the nation marks seven years since the decision, the government has reiterated its focus on inclusive development, economic progress, and creating opportunities for people across both Union Territories.
