Chennai, September 19, 2026: The fourth edition of the HCL Cyclothon Chennai brought together more than 2,000 cycling enthusiasts and athletes from across the country, reinforcing the growing popularity of cycling as both a competitive sport and a fitness activity. Organised by HCL Group, the event was held on the scenic East Coast Road (ECR) and featured a prize pool of Rs. 33.6 lakh, offering a platform for professional and amateur cyclists to showcase their endurance, skill, and competitive spirit.
Held under the aegis of the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) and powered by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) and in association with the Tamil Nadu Government, the event featured multiple race categories designed to encourage participation across different age groups and experience levels. The CFI served as the technical partner, overseeing the event's technical guidelines, rules, and regulatory compliance. The event was joined by Thiru. J. Meghanatha Reddy IAS, Member Secretary, Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu. Reddy also participated in the Green Ride (Anti-Drug Ride) category.
Introduced to promote a culture of sports, fitness, and healthy living, the HCL Cyclothon has grown into a prominent cycling initiative, bringing together participants from diverse backgrounds and communities. Now organised annually across Noida, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, the initiative has witnessed participation from more than 20,000 cyclists across its previous editions, reflecting its growing reach and appeal among India's cycling community.
Thiru. J. Meghanatha Reddy IAS, Member Secretary, Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu said, “The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu is pleased to support the fourth edition of the HCL Cyclothon Chennai. Events like this bring professional and amateur cyclists onto the same road and show how accessible cycling is as a sport and as a daily fitness habit. The East Coast Road made a fitting setting for riders of every age and experience level. I congratulate HCL Group and the Cycling Federation of India for organising it well, and I hope more people in Chennai take up cycling.”
Commenting on the event, Nikhil Soni, Head of Brand & Marketing, HCL Group, said, “The fourth edition of HCL Cyclothon Chennai reflects our continued commitment to inspiring people to embrace healthier and more active lifestyles. Cycling brings together people across age groups and backgrounds, creating opportunities to build a stronger sense of community while promoting fitness and well-being. Through initiatives such as the HCL Cyclothon, we aim to encourage greater participation in sports and help individuals make positive transformation in the society.”
The Chennai edition featured a range of race formats, including the 54 km Professional Road Race for CFI-licensed cyclists, 54 km and 28 km Amateur Road Races, a 28 km Amateur Mountain Bike (MTB) Race, and a 10 km Green Ride (which was also tagged as Anti-Drug Ride). While the competitive categories provided a platform for athletes to test their endurance and compete for prize money, the Green Ride encouraged participants to embrace cycling as an accessible and enjoyable way to stay active and healthy. The Green Ride, a non-competitive category, will be timed for the first time this year, enabling participants to record their completion time while retaining the inclusive, recreational nature of the ride.
