Building India’s Quantum Talent: NMIMS MPSTME Hosts Qiskit Fall Fest 2026

Mumbai, 27 October 2026: The Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management and Engineering (MPSTME), SVKM’s NMIMS, Mumbai, hosted Qiskit Fall Fest 2026 as a one-day event on 24 October, bringing together students, researchers, academicians and industry professionals to explore emerging quantum technologies. Organised by MPSTME’s Department of Information Technology in collaboration with the Computer Society of India (CSI) at MPSTME, the event was part of IBM Quantum’s global Qiskit Fall Fest initiative.

The event was attended by Prof. Sougata Ray, Vice Chancellor, SVKM’s NMIMS, underscoring the university’s commitment to advancing technological innovation and multidisciplinary learning. Under the guidance of Dr. Koteswararao Anne, Dean, MPSTME, and Dr. Ashwini Rao, Head, Department of Information Technology, the event was coordinated with the active involvement of Prof. Bhavna Bose, a Tier 2 Qiskit Advocate and IBM Certified Qiskit Developer.

The event attracted over 300 registrations from across the country and featured expert sessions and a quantum computing hackathon. Speakers included Dr. B. K. Murty, former Scientist-G, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY); Dr. Pilli Emmanuel Shubhakar, Associate Dean, MNIT Jaipur; Dr. Aswath Babu; Dr. Sathyaprakash Palaniyappan, Co-Founder and COO, Anuthantra; Dr Mukta Nivelkar, Assistant Professor, FCRIT, Vashi; and Mr. Jay Shah, Senior Quantum Machine Learning Researcher at BQP and Founder, QRL.

The sessions covered quantum technology advancements, qubit realisation, quantum algorithms, Qiskit programming, Java–Qiskit integration, Quantum AI and challenges in quantum machine learning. The hackathon encouraged participants to apply quantum computing concepts to practical problem-solving, connecting emerging research with hands-on learning and potential real-world applications.

Prof. Sougata Ray, Vice Chancellor, SVKM’s NMIMS, said, “As a multidisciplinary university, NMIMS is committed to combining academic rigour with opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, research and innovation. Qiskit Fall Fest 2026 at NMIMS School of Engineering (MPSTME) reflects this vision by bringing students and experts together to explore the emerging field of quantum computing through experimentation and hands-on learning. We believe students must be equipped not only with disciplinary depth but also with the ability to connect ideas, apply knowledge to complex challenges and adapt to a rapidly evolving technological landscape. Initiatives such as this help foster the curiosity, critical thinking and innovative capabilities that will shape the future of science and technology.”

MPSTME continues to strengthen its focus on quantum computing through faculty development, professional certifications, hands-on training and academic engagement. The event also aligns with the objectives of India’s National Quantum Mission, which aims to advance research, development and innovation in quantum technologies and build specialised talent.

Through initiatives such as Qiskit Fall Fest, SVKM’s NMIMS MPSTME reinforces its commitment to experiential learning and preparing students to engage with emerging technologies and contribute to scientific and technological advancement.
