Parents of children with rare genetic, skeletal and muscular disorders often have to visit multiple doctors across different hospitals over several days to access the care their children need. The PRISM Clinic aims to ease this burden by bringing essential medical services together under one roof. Addressing the gathering, Dr. K. G. Alexander, Chairman, BMH, who presided over the function, said that the clinic was the result of sustained efforts and dedication over an extended period.
Dhanya Ravi, who was born with osteogenesis imperfecta, a rare genetic disorder that causes bones to fracture easily, has overcome hundreds of fractures to become an author and motivational speaker. Originally from Palakkad and currently residing in Bengaluru, she has received the National Award for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in the Role Model category. Sharing her journey of resilience, Dhanya moved the audience with her experiences. Her presence brought inspiration to the event, as she understands firsthand the concerns and hopes of children living with rare disorders and their families.
Dr. Eshwar T. Ramani, Clinic Lead, said that a coordinated care model in which specialists from genetics, neurology, paediatrics, orthopaedics, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation examine a child under one roof on the same day is rare in the country. He emphasised that the clinic aims to coordinate all aspects of a child’s treatment through a single, comprehensive care plan delivered with compassion and understanding.
Dr. Ujwal George, Clinic Coordinator, welcomed the gathering and explained that the clinic would provide comprehensive care for conditions such as osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), which causes bones to fracture easily, skeletal growth disorders, muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), cerebral palsy, genetic syndromes, scoliosis, and limb deformities.
Dr. Ajesh Nambiar V., Cluster Head and General Manager, Marketing, BMH, proposed the vote of thanks.
